This is the first of a comic series called "Simply Potterific," by Katie Shanahan aka Kt Shy.

But I simply love her take on Sirius and Lupin. They are much closer to what I imagined while reading the books than how the films depicted them. (i.e. she drew them much hotter.)

A Child Called It is the autobiographical recount of Dave Pelzer's abusive childhood, which has gone down in legal history as one of the worst cases of child abuse in the state.

Even though it's a terribly subject matter, the book is impossible to put down and I read through it in one sitting. Haven't tried the sequels.

I read this over 3 sittings in the UCSD Bookstore. Still haven't seen the movie but I wouldn't want to be disappointed, as I had really enjoyed this book.

Things I've Learned So Far This Year...

We're not terribly far into 2010 but it's already been a great learning year.

• Reading a cookie book right before bed is a bad idea. (Thanks a lot, Martha Stewart.)

• Finding out that I can put books on hold at the library via the online catalog is the best thing that's happened to my intellectual stimulation since Mental Floss. It's a million times easier to just add them to my list as I think of them and pick them up all together.

• It's so easy to fall behind on blogging! I'm stealing an idea for recharging this blog though and you'll see it very soon.

• GoogleMaps lies sometimes. Unpleasantness ensues.

• Google Mail is actually waaaaaaaaaaay easier and better to use than Yahoo! Mail. At first, I thought it was just because I was used to gmail... but then I got used to Y!mail and then it felt more like whymail. I'm actually considering writing a full post to highlight some gmail functionalities that make it so great.

• I kind of miss WoW like a lot... and I have a battle.net hacker to thank for reminding me how fun the game was.

*Note: Brisinger is the 3rd book in the Inheritance Cycle, a.k.a. the Eragon books. I just picked it up from the library and haven't started reading it yet, but I'm wary about it (and the not-yet-released 4th book) because "the worst book in a trilogy is the fourth." (Thanks, TV Tropes, for that quote.)
